Planning a road trip?

Before you load the bags and hit the road, it’s wise to do a quick check-up on your vehicle.

A few simple checks can help you avoid delays, stress, and possible problems during your trip.

Start with your tires. Check your tire pressure and look for low tread, cracks, nails, or uneven wear. You can find the correct tire pressure for your vehicle in the owner’s manual or on the driver-side door label.

Next, check your oil level. If your vehicle is close to needing an oil change, it may be better to take care of it before a long drive.

You should also check your brakes. If you hear squeaking, grinding, or feel shaking when you stop, schedule a brake inspection before your trip.

Your battery is another important item. A weak battery can be harder to trust during long drives, hot weather, or cold mornings. If your vehicle starts slowly, a battery test is a good idea.

Before leaving, also check your:

  • Wiper blades
  • Washer fluid
  • Coolant level
  • Headlights and brake lights
  • Turn signals
  • Air conditioning
  • Spare tire or inflator kit, if equipped

A road trip inspection can help catch small issues before they turn into bigger problems away from home.
